24 Eylül 2008In the 19th NATO Chess Championship which was host between 4-8 August 2008 in Brussels, Belgium, Serkan Yeke won the event in the individual competition by scoring 6/7 and performing high at 2536. Turkish Armed Forces National Team won the event to end the German dominance in the competition for 13 years. The first ever Turkish chess title at armed forces level were won by Gökhan Narman, Necmettin Korkmaz (both scored 5 points) and Devrim Alaşlar (4.5). Yeke was followed by Andreas Schenk(2509), Fabrice Wantiez(2315), Mateusz Sypien(2217) ve the winner of the 18.NATO Chess Championship ,which was held in Ankara, Turkey, Vytautas Vaznonis(2407) who shared 2-5.places with 5 points.
